I Hear You Knockin by Jeff Hannusch5/19/2023 ![]() ![]() You may not know the names, but you will know the music: Ya-Ya, Mother-in-Law, Good Rockin' Tonight, I Like It Like That, Barefootin', Time Is on My Side and on and on. The book is in seven parts: Piano Players (Tuts Washington, Professor Longhair, Huey "Piano" Smith, James Booker and Allen Toussaint) The Pioneers (Roy Brown, Mr Google Eyes, Dave Bartholomew) The Record Men (Cosimo Matassa, Dr Daddy-O, Johnny Vincent, Joe Banashak, Marshall Sehorn) New Orleans Blues (Bill Webb, Guitar Slim, Earl King) Woman's Viewpoint (Shirley Goodman, Dorothy Labostrie, Irma Thomas) The Second Line (Lee Allen, Smiley Lewis, James Crawford, Johnny Adams, Bobby Mitchell) the Hit Makers (Chris Kenner, Bob Marchan, Frankie Ford, Jessie Hill, King Floyd, Ernie K-Doe, Lee Dorsey). It covers the New Orleans music scene from post WWII through to the early 80's. This is a well researched book, with a lot of interviews with the author searching out the movers and shakers and those that knew them. I came to this book through a recommendation from my friend Dave Squires, known as Kidd Squidd on KXCI radio in Tucson. ![]()
